An English outfit that began at the University of Birmingham and was spearheaded by Nick Corbin's guitar and vocals, New Street Adventure hosted many members during their 11-year existence, though they began as a trio (Chris Daykin and Robin Langhorn accompanied Corbin).

These four tracks offer all different versions of their late period singles, and it arrived when the band we're closing up shop on their modern street soul sounds following 2017's well received album, my_heart_sings_the_harmony_web_ad_alt_250 Stubborn Sons. When they dissolved, Corbin's bandmates were Ashley Hayden (bass, backing vocals), Billy Farr (guitar, backing vocals), Ben Wolfe (drums) and Max De Lucia (keys).

“One And The Same” starts the quick listen with warm and intimate acoustic guitar, where Corbin's smooth pipes guide the soulfulness that recruits Farr's precise guitar and soothing backing vocals.

The very pretty and elegant “Why Should We Do Anything?” arrives in the middle, and welcomes graceful vocal harmonies that suit the rich guitar playing and observational wordplay (something Corbin is known for), while “What's So Good About Happiness?” enters more rhythmic areas via the meticulous guitars and diverse vocals from Corbin's distinct voice.

The EP exits with the atmospheric and emotive “Something More Than This”, where Corbin's range is explored alongside the dreamy, introspective and absorbing song craft that swirls with mystery and melody.

An extremely limited 7” record, there's just 500 copies of this in circulation. The band only released a pair of albums during their tenure, but they sure did leave an impression, and this brief listen is a great introduction for the unfamiliar, like myself.

Thankfully, the band are playing again, so some of us will get to hear these songs live, too. Perhaps even some new tunes are on their way?
