What an exciting album.  my_heart_sings_the_harmony_web_ad_alt_250

The Section Quartet is exactly what the name suggests, a quartet of highly accomplished classical players. But it feels like a rock band, and that's what makes this release so successful.

The entire album is made of cover versions of rock songs -- now, having said that, I feel like I just put a limit on this band.  What this group does is take a song and make it their own. They create their own arrangements and often change the dynamics of the tune.  The songs are faithful to the originals yet are redone in an original style unique to this band, setting them apart from similar ventures.

Fuzzbox is able to breathe on its own, one that should be listened to as a whole.  Soundgarden’s "Black Hole Sun" is here in an amazing dreamy version, as is Radiohead’s "Paranoid Android."  Led Zeppelin’s "Heartbreaker" shines, especially the solo section, which is duplicated completely.

Another great aspect of this record is that it defends itself in just about any setting. The album could be played very loud, and sound incredibly powerful, with all little details hidden in the background. It could be played at a low volume early in the morning when you’re getting ready for a long day ahead.  Then, it sounds very gentle and has a calming effect.

When it comes to originality, The Section Quartet will definitely open a lot of doors for many artists who never considered the possibilities that are ahead of them. This is a beginning of something very special and is a great album not to be missed.
