Keeping Up (Vol. 35)

by Darren Paltrowitz

Here are some more quick picks for you, the loyal reader:

MUSIC: Screaming Females – Hailing from New Brunswick, New Jersey, Screaming Females are a rock trio making waves nationwide less than 5 years after forming. Recently seen as a headliner of the Don Giovanni Records showcase at the Bowery Ballroom, the Females have come a long way since their basement scene origins. The latest release of the Marissa Paternoster-fronted group, Power Move, is their third full-length collection of punk-influenced indie-rock. Check out the video of first single, “Bell,” on YouTube. iamozzy_300BOOK: Ozzy Osbourne with Chris Ayres / I Am Ozzy – The first literary effort by the internationally-known “Prince Of Darkness,” “I Am Ozzy” is the long-awaited tell-all from rock legend (and survivor) Ozzy Osbourne. Written with Chris Ayres –- whose “Death By Leisure” was recommended in a recent column –- the book entirely reads in Ozzy’s voice without (clearly) hiding anything about the rocker’s life. From his tough upbringing in Aston and time with Black Sabbath, to his successful solo career and reality TV cross-over, Ozzy’s autobiography does not shy away from jail time, failed relationships, business mistakes, lawsuits, or injuries. In turn, you have one of the best rock memoirs you’ll ever read. (ozzy.com)

TOOL: Bing Cashback – Google is generally the “go to” as a search engine –- in my household, at least –- but Bing has become the “go to” portal for online shopping. Partnering with hundreds of online retailers, Cashback provides consumers with up to a 35% rebate if they sign in to their Bing account and click-through before making their purchase. Participating retailers include Barnes & Noble, Sephora, Foot Locker, and Overstock.com, thus passing along savings to people who had shopping to do anyway. (bing.com)
